People Like you doesn't focus on any specific mental illness. This is because we in fact focus less on the illness, or what is wrong with the person, and focus more on what is right. Or, in other words the solutions rather than the problems. We encourage young people to work on all of the things that make them a person, and aim to allow them to strengthen those areas in order to combat their mental illness. We do this in a variety of ways, mostly through therapeutic and educational activities.

Our main projects are:

Funny farm - Purpose built mental health learning centre that revolves around an organic farm. To find out more and support this project visit the News and Events page, download the flyer and attend our movie fundraiser.

Equine Facilitated Learning - Equine Facilitated Learning and Coaching is based in the philosophy that through interacting and creating relationships with horses a person may explore and learn new ways of understanding how they interface with the world around them. Horses are non-judgmental beings that facilitate learning in a positive and immediate manner. It is often easier to learn a life lesson from a 500kg horse, than through a friend, supervisor or business partner. (Pike, K. 2009)

Wilderness Therapy - Challenge activites such as bushwalking and rocklimbing are therapeutic and can be very powerful in affirming one's belief in their ability to overcome obstacles. PLU uitilises these outdorr pursuits to achieve that goal. Young people develop a firm sense of achievement and self belief by participating in various outdoor activities. These attributes are essential to a young person's recovery.

If you would like to support these programs please donate to PLU, or fill out the registration form - see NEWS AND EVENTS - and attend the fundraiser on the 9th of August.
